The bedroom is one of the most common areas to place a mirror. They’ll often provide an obvious function in this space, but, can also offer the opportunity to be a colourful feature! Turning a plain, frameless, mirror into a focal-point is easy with this project, and can even be coordinated to match any décor.
Whether you create a frame design, or a more abstract pattern, mirrors definitely provide an interesting canvas for your tape art! Tape on!
The Scotch® Brand Team
SKILL LEVEL: Easy
TIME NEEDED: Approximately 1 hour
Scotch® Brand Supplies:
- Scotch™ Expressions™ Masking Tape, Purple
- Scotch™ Expressions™ Magic™ Tape, Starburst
- Scotch™ Expressions™ Washi Tape, Gold
- Utility knife
- Cutting mat
Plan and prep. Choose your colour scheme and your product. If you would like to replicate the design we have featured in this project, simply refer to list above. This tutorial will assume you’ve selected these items.
The solid border. In this design, a solid border is created at the top and bottom of the mirror by simply applying two lines of Scotch™ Expressions™ Washi Tape in Gold.
The striped border. To create the striped border that is featured down both sides of this mirror, you can first cut all your pieces to size. Then, layout the pattern on your cutting mat by alternating the tapes, as shown. Use a ruler and utility knife to cut the pieces at the same size.
Apply. Once you have all your pieces cut for the striped boarder, simply apply them the edges of the mirror in the same layout.
EXPERT TIP: When placing strips of tape side-by-side in order to create a solid (or a striped pattern), be sure to place them as close as possible. They need to be touching, but not overlapping.
