Throughout the year, geometric jewellery has been one of the hottest and on-trend statement pieces for every outfit; whether casual or dress. Because of its popularity it has been selected as one of the top gift-styling trends for this holiday season.
With plain wrapping paper and some coloured cardstock, you can create a geometric gift embellishment that makes a bold statement that’s super on-trend. The bright colours might not be your traditional holiday palette, but some added glitter keeps things suitably festive. Read on to get the look:

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate to expert
TIME NEEDED: Approximately 30 to 40 minutes
• Wrapping paper
• Cardstock in three colours
- Wrap your box. Using Scotch™ Precision Ultra Edge Scissors, cut your wrapping paper to size. Wrap the paper around the box and secure in place with your choice of tape: Scotch® GiftWrap Tape, Scotch® Double-Sided Tape or Scotch® Magic™ Tape. Test out each tape to find which one works best for the paper you are using. Scotch® GiftWrap Tape features a unique satin finish that disappears on most gift wrap papers. Scotch® Double-Sided Tape is coated with a permanent adhesive on both sides so it will be hidden between the layers of wrapping paper. Scotch® Magic™ Tape is the original matte-finish, invisible tape; it’s best for matte-finish wrapping papers.
- Measure and cut the triangles. Using a ruler and pencil, measure out several triangles on the back of each of your three coloured cardstock sheets. We created isosceles triangles by first measuring squares and then dividing those in half diagonally to create triangles. Next, cut along the pencil lines with your Scotch™ Precision Ultra Edge Scissors. You’ll need enough triangles to cover the front surface of your wrapped gift.
- Attach the triangles. Map out your pattern by laying out your triangles on top of your wrapped gift. We left a few empty spots to allow the wrapping paper to peek through. When you’re happy with your pattern, start gluing the triangles in place using a Scotch® Craft Stick.
Add the ribbon. To finish, tie a coordinating ribbon around the gift.
EXPERT TIP: The fun part about this DIY is the variety of looks you can create just by changing the colours you use. Or, try the technique with squares instead of triangles. The options are endless.
