Thanksgiving Vase

Thanksgiving is less than a week away, and preparations are full steam ahead.

As you prepare to entertain family or if you’re attending a get-together as a guest and don’t want to show up empty-handed, we’ve got just the thing for you!

This week’s project created by Allison Cooper of Love Nest Design,  is a lovely fall-inspired design arrangement that can last beyond Thanksgiving weekend and into the holiday season.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Scotch® Brand Team!

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate

TIME NEEDED: Approximately 30 minutes to an hour

Scotch® Brand Supplies:

  • Glass vase with faux flowers
  • Sharp utility knife
  • Vase with faux flowers (optional, for accessorizing)

1200x1200_Thanksgiving_Vase_Step1Plan and prep. Choose your colour scheme and your product. If you would like to replicate the design we have featured in this project, simply refer to list above. This tutorial will assume you’ve selected these items.
1200x1200_Thanksgiving_Vase_Step2Vertical lines. Select what will be the ‘front’ of your vase and place a piece of Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Gold Vintage Rose tape vertically up the side, cutting about 3” short of the top of the vase. Space evenly from the first vertical piece and then place two more pieces of Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Silver Bubble Dots on either side of the first strip. Make sure to cut these to be approximately one inch shorter than your first piece.

1200x1200_Thanksgiving_Vase_Step3Continue pattern. Then rotate in the Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Silver  and Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Gold to continue the pattern. Continue with this pattern ¾ of the way around the vase, leaving a small section at the back of the vase without tape.

Horizontal lines. Now it’s time to place your horizontal lines! Leaving ¼” of glass from the bottom of the vase exposed, run a complete circle of tape covering the ends of the vertical lines, starting with Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Gold. Then, place your next piece of Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Gold Vintage Rose directly above the first. Continue adding tape horizontally in alternating colors/patterns as featured in the photo below, and continue until you reach the top.

1200x1200_Thanksgiving_Vase_Step4Weave time. Now it’s time to start the “weaving”process. By holding the vase up in a bright room, you can easily see the vertical lines of tape beneath the horizontal. Using your utility knife, cut along the edges of the vertical tape and peel off the horizontal piece you just cut to reveal the vertical tape beneath. Continue this all the way around the vase. Continue cutting and peeling tape in the alternating pattern shown. Reveal some glass and some vertical lines towards the back of the vase and taper off the pattern as shown in the image below.

EXPERT TIP: Have patience. The weaving portion of this project does take some time and attention to detail, so don’t rush.  🙂

A lovely, fall-inspired craft that’s inexpensive, adds style to your home and doubles as a gift!
