SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate

TIME NEEDED: Approximately 1 hour

Scotch® Brand Supplies:

  • Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Pastel Pink
  • Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Blue Solid
  •  Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Blue Weave
  • Scotch® Expressions Magic™ Tape, Red
  •  Scotch® Designer Multi-Purpose 8” Scissors, Zebra

OTHER SUPPLIES/TOOLS

  • Cutting Mat
  • Cork Backed Ruler
  • Utility Knife
  • Tape Measure

Plan and prep. Choose your colour scheme and your product. If you would like to replicate the design we have featured in this project, simply refer to list above. This tutorial will assume you’ve selected these items.
Step-1_Castle-headboard_without-1To get started, use your tape measure to measure 48” from the sill of the bed frame. This will be the top of your headboard. Mark lightly with a pencil or use a small scrap of tape to note this height.
Step-2_Castle-headboard_supplies-2Starting an inch or two above the sill of the bed frame, tape a straight line from the edge of the bed frame to the marked height of your headboard using Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Blue Solid.

Next you will need 2” strips of Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Blue Solid to create the parapet of the castle. Create these by using your cutting mat and ruler.
Step-3_castleheadboard3At the top of the straight line you’ve created, place the first piece of 2” Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Blue Solid horizontal to it. Continue with another 2” strip, perpendicular to your long strip. By alternating direction, horizontal to vertical, you can create the parapets.

For each tower use three parapets. Once you have created the first tower, move to the opposite side of the bed and repeat the process. To create the lower parapet place a strip of Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Blue Solid 10-12” in length and repeat the parapet pattern all the way across the castle.
step-4_castleheadboard_4Now to add some flags! Simply measure out a 6” strip of Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Blue Weave for your flag pole and place it in the center of the first tower. To create the flag layer a piece of Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Pastel Pink in another colour on an angle at the top of the pole. Layer a second piece below on a similar angle. Don’t worry about it being perfectly straight, they should look like flags flapping in the wind. Trim the overlapping Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Pastel Pink to finish your flag.

Use your cutting mat to trim a strip of Scotch® Expressions Magic™ Tape, Red into triangles. These will be used to create some banners for your castle. Hang the banner anywhere you like on the castle by lining the triangles up in a U-shape.
