Setting the table for family during the holidays has become part of the tradition, make it extra special this year with Scotch™ Expressions™ Tape! This project takes your average cutting board and turns it into a feature centerpiece for your thanksgiving spread. Go bold this year with deep purple hues and glints of gold.

Happy Thanksgiving!

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate

TIME NEEDED: Approximately 1 hour

Scotch® Brand Supplies:

OTHER SUPPLIES/TOOLS

  • Utility knife
  • Ruler
  • Cutting mat

Plan and prep. Choose your colour scheme and your product. If you would like to replicate the design we have featured in this project, simply refer to list above. This tutorial will assume you’ve selected these items.
1200x1200_ThanksgivingSpread_Step1Edge the board. Using Scotch Expressions Magic™ Tape, Purple, cover the edge of the cutting board all the way around. If your cutting board is wide use two strips, you can fold the bottom under if you have excess.
1200x1200_ThanksgivingSpread_Step2Pattern Play. When creating a pattern on the top of the board choose one edge to focus on because you’ll have the majority of the board covered in yummy treats! Here we’ve used Scotch® Chalkboard Tape to create an angular pattern on the right hand side. Simply fold the excess ends of the chalkboard tape under the board. We then added a purple accent to match the edge of the board with Scotch Expressions Magic™ Tape, Purple. Use your utility knife to trim the edges where the tapes meet.
1200x1200_ThanksgivingSpread_Step3Create strips of gold. Use your cutting mat, utility knife, and ruler to cut the Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Gold into thinner strips. Your mat will let you select the thickness of your strip with the pre-measured lines.
1200x1200_ThanksgivingSpread_Step5Add some sparkle. Take your thinner strips of Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape, Gold and incorporate them into your pattern. Here we’ve added a single strip to the top and one along the edge of the board as well.

1200x1200_ThanksgivingSpread_Step6Create another! Using the chalkboard tape cut a strip into a point at one end. Add in your purple edging and a touch of sparkle again and you have a coordinating board for a bigger table.

EXPERT TIP: Scotch Chalkboard Tape is a great way to label foods in a potluck setting. It appears as a beautiful pattern but functions as a label!
