Upstage Your Bedroom with Graphic Wall Art

Bedroom with Wall Art

Make a bold impact in any space by creating colourful graphic wall art. This geometric art is easy to recreate and works as a great alternative to expensive framed artwork.  You can even customize the look by selecting colours that reflect your room’s unique décor.

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate

TIME NEEDED: Approximately 2.5 hours

  • Scotch® Expressions™ Washi Tape, Green
  • Scotch® Expressions™ Washi Tape, Pink
  • Scotch® Expressions™ Washi Tape, Blue
  • Scotch® Expressions™ Washi Tape, Orange

  •      Utility knife
  •      Measuring tape
  •      Chalk or pencil
  •      Ruler
  •      Scissors

Craft Supplies

Start by measuring the length of your headboard. Using the chalk, make a line in the middle of the headboard. Then decide how high you would like the outer pyramid to be (this example measures 28 inches), and mark perpendicularly to the middle of the headboard.

Next, draw rough lines using chalk, from the top of the pyramid to the outer edges of the head board. Use these lines as a starting guide for your pyramid.

Begin by placing the first colour of Scotch® Expressions™ Washi Tape (in this case green) just above the top of the pyramid, pull the tape down to the outer edge of headboard and cut.  Then repeat on the other side, overlapping at the top. Make sure to leave extra tape at both ends.

Now, place your next colour below the first and repeat until you finish all five colours. Repeat again until you have 10 strips of Scotch® Expressions™ Washi Tape. To finish repeat the first colour one last time for a final total of 11 strips on either side.

Tape Wall Decor

Now for the center triangle inside the pyramid….

Starting from the bottom, measure four (4) inches up from the left, and right side. Using chalk, draw a straight line.

For the sides of the pyramid you want to measure four (4) inches, parallel to the inside of the pyramid.

PRO TIP: Do not measure four (4) inches down from the inside point, as this will give you a different triangle shape.

Repeat on the same side, then using chalk connect the dots to create a rough drawing of a triangle.

Next, repeat the same steps used to create your pyramid, making sure to leave excess tape at all corners and of course, adding to the bottom line.

Measuring the Wall Decor

When you are finished setting your Scotch® Expressions™ Washi Tape, remove the excess tape.

Place your ruler vertically from the top corner of the pyramid, straight through to the bottom. Using the utility knife (in your other hand) carefully and gently cut straight from the top to the bottom. Once completed, you can easily remove the extra pieces of tape, you will then be left with a clean precise corner.

PRO TIP: If you are doing this on drywall, be sure to apply light pressure when using the utility knife.

Repeat same steps with inner triangle.

Putting Tape on Wall

Last but not least, remove any chalk or pencil marks and smooth away lumps and bumps using your hands or a bank card

PRO TIP: This would also work nicely behind a couch!
